Family Help and Family Relationships

In dealing with the subject of family help I am reminded of these inspirational words spoken by Winston Churchill: "We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills."

On hearing those immortal words, some of you might find yourself saying, “That sounds exactly like my family.”

Rudyard Kipling once wrote about families, "all of us are we--and everyone else is they. A family shares things like dreams, hopes, possessions, memories, smiles, frowns, and gladness."

A family is a tribe held together with the building blocks of love and the mortar of mutual respect. A family should be shelter from the storms of life, a port of safety when the waves of life begin to crash on the shores of our lives. No person is ever alone who is a member of a family. Reinhold Niebuhr says, "Family life is too intimate to be preserved by the spirit of justice. It can only be sustained by a spirit of love which goes beyond justice."

In the following pages we offer practical help and advice that will give you the tools to build the kind of family relationships that will carry through to the next generation.
